SHAH ALAM - A sudden storm turned a thrilling day at Six Flags Mexico into a nerve-wracking experience when the Supergirl Sky Flight ride abruptly stopped mid-air, leaving riders stranded 243 feet above ground amid heavy rain and strong winds.

According to United States international news agency UPI, a group of thrill seeking passengers found themselves dangling 250ft in the air during storm at the amusement park in Mexico City, last Sunday.

One of the riders, Omar Hernandez Medrano captured the intense moment on video as the ride suddenly stopped in the middle of the storm.

"We went up Supergirl and as it was underway, it started to rain and quickly got worse.

"As we were high up, with the rain and the ride in motion, it stopped and we were stuck at the top for 10 minutes in heavy rain," he was reported as saying.

The Supergirl Sky Flight, also known as the Sky Screamer, is known for offering breathtaking views of Mexico City.

The ride, which took passengers up to 243 feet at a speed of 40 mph, became one of several attractions disrupted by the storm.

Six Flags Mexico confirmed in a statement that the storm caused multiple rides to temporarily cease operations.

"Unfortunately, the storm intensified during the evacuation process, creating some uncomfortable moments for our visitors," it said.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, all safety protocols were being followed and the stranded riders were safely evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

Operations at the amusement park resumed later that day, with the Supergirl Sky Flight returning to service.

Six Flags Mexico emphasised that safety remained its top priority and assured that the park staff continued to monitor weather conditions closely to prevent similar incidents in the future.
