Muhyiddin must resign from PN and Bersatu – Puad Zarkashi
The former prime minister should not use the excuse that he has not yet been convicted.
KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should resign as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Bersatu president.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said that the former prime minister should not use the excuse that he has not yet been convicted.
Puad said this was a matter of integrity because Muhyiddin was accused of corruption related to the Jana Wibawa issue.
"Today, he is also facing charges related to the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issue. His son-in-law has yet to surrender and Bersatu suffered a severe defeat in Nenggiri," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said that Muhyiddin should follow the example of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who resigned as Umno President and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman.
"He (Najib) resigned when BN lost in the 14th General Election (GE14), even though he had not been charged at that time.
"But why, with such serious accusations, does (Muhyiddin) still want to retain his position?" he questioned.
Muhyiddin is still facing four charges of abuse of power related to the Jana Wibawa project after the Court of Appeal on Feb 28 overturned the High Court’s decision to discharge him not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA).
He was also charged in the Gua Musang Sessions Court today for allegedly making seditious remarks during the campaign for the Nenggiri by-election in Felda Perasu on Aug 14.
This was related to the speech made by the Pagoh MP, which was said to question the authority of the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, when he was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
