SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) holds a bright chance of winning the Mahkota by-election compared to Perikatan Nasional (PN), said political analyst Dr Mazlan Ali, highlighting that PN's influence in the area is relatively weak.

He said that previous election results further strengthened BN's chances of success.

"If we look at the past elections, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Umno have both previously won this seat.

“I believe that if the votes from both PH and Umno are combined, Umno will have a significant advantage there,” " he said when contacted on Monday.

Moreover, he highlighted that Umno is currently in high spirits after securing victory in the Nenggiri by-election last Saturday.

"The path to victory in Nenggiri was very challenging because they had previously lost to Bersatu in last year’s state election.

“However, thanks to their efforts and effective strategies, they achieved a stunning win, despite Nenggiri being a stronghold of Pas influence," he added.

Addressing the candidate dispute between Amanah and BN, Mazlan, who is also a Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Perdana Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities lecturer, expressed confidence that Amanah supporters would not stage protests and would respect the decision made by the top leaders.

"So far, only Amanah has protested, but I believe this won't pose any issue, especially since Amanah is not a party that tends to create problems. Amanah is a loyal party, and they will accept the decision made by the highest leadership," he said.

The Mahkota by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent, Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain of BN, on August 2.
