Wan Rosdy shares lowest moments in life and Umno, highlights party slowly rising from the ashes
"The will to survive allowed us to rise and stand again after our failures."
KUALA LUMPUR - The recent Nenggiri by-election victory demonstrates that Umno's influence is far from over, signalling a resurgence of the party's strength, says Umno's vice president.
Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said that he believed everyone has experienced the lowest points in their lives.
“Personally, I felt it (the lowest point) when I recently underwent heart surgery. There are times when we feel alone and there are moments when we feel hopeless. Similarly, some of us go through tough times, losing jobs, failing in business or losing loved ones.
“Our party has also faced such moments; after losing power, Umno seemed to lose its future. One by one, disloyal friends and allies abandoned us.
“We lost in the elections and our leaders were prosecuted and pressured with various threats,” he said.
However, Wan Rosdy said that slowly, Umno is rising again.
“We tried various approaches. The will to survive allowed us to rise and stand again after our failures. The Nenggiri by-election proved that it is not yet the end for Umno.
“The people are not hesitant to give us another chance, provided that we show our awareness and determination to change. They want to see the real Umno.
“One that is moderate in its approach, not extreme in its politics, grounded in the struggle for Malay Muslims without sidelining the rights of minorities or other races,” he said.
Most importantly, the Pahang Menteri Besar stressed that the people did not want to see a divided Umno where members blame each other.
He said that when all this is accomplished, the people will, without hesitation, once again give their support to Umno.
On June 7, Wan Rosdy had undergone surgery at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur and he was discharged from the hospital a week later.
