KUALA LUMPUR – It is time for the Malays to put racial as well as religion sentiments aside as they aspire to be wise and the driving force behind a new evolution for Malaysia's digital and economic advancement
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the sentiment was outdated in the 21st century and wanted Malays to act smarter in order to effectively initiate a new evolution.
"We need to make the current Malay generation better, more competitive, more educated and more global," he said in his winding-up speech at the 2024 Umno General Assembly here.
He said that religion should not be allowed to be used as a political tool to instil fear in the Malay community with absurd notions.
"It not only weakens the confidence of the people but also divides the Malays,” the Defence Minister said.
He said that only confidence could help create excellent and enduring Malays which was also a part of Umno's responsibility.
"It is essential that Malay parties are not scared of anyone
"Umno and all Malay parties must support the Malays to develop resilience for the sake of pursuing good education and skills in the future," he said.
