KUALA LUMPUR - Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin urges the people not to use religion as a tool to support any political party, including Umno.

Speaking about the roles of different groups in society (children, youth, women), he stressed the need for children to receive strong Islamic education that equips them for success in both this life and the hereafter.

He was raising concern about the increasing trend of using religion to justify political support for parties.

"In the context of Islamic studies, our children, particularly Bumiputeras, should receive education that enables them to excel in life and the hereafter, rather than using Islam merely as a tool for political support,” Khaled said.

He also highlighted the importance of educated women and youth contributing to the country's prosperity and taking on active roles in society.

When asked about Umno's political strategy and its approach in recent elections, Khaled expressed confidence in the party’s future, indicating that Umno intended to contest in more seats.

"Umno will certainly contest many seats. We hope to succeed beyond the current seats we hold and will work harder to win," he said at the Umno General Assembly held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, today.

Khaled also said Umno was committed to its collaboration with other parties.

He said as a party that fought for moderation, being able to cooperate with other parties well was helping the narrative.

"It shows that Umno celebrates cooperation and true power sharing," he said.

He said Umno has always defended pluralism in the country and it remained the party’s core principle.

The party’s focus on moderation and inclusivity has allowed the country to continue to live in a stable and harmonious society, he added.

As long as Umno maintained this approach, he said it would continue to gain support from all Malaysians.
