KUALA LUMPUR - “She (the victim) screamed for help after falling before going completely silent shortly after."

Those were the words of the husband of the Indian woman who fell and was buried following a sinkhole incident in front of Masjid India here on Saturday.

However, the man, in his 40s, was somewhat reluctant to share more details about the incident involving his wife, citing difficulties in communication.

As of 3pm, the search and rescue (SAR) efforts, now entering their seventh hour, continued with the use of an excavator to widen the sinkhole, facilitating the rescue team's efforts.

Earlier, Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, said they were still in the process of gathering information related to the incident and were reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area.

The police would record witness statements to assist in the investigation.

At this point, further detailed comments cannot be made as the matter is still under investigation.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and firefighters are actively conducting rescue operations at the scene.

Sulizmie said the area is still considered safe for now, but further discussions will be held to determine if there is a need to cordon off the site.
