KUALA LUMPUR - MIC is confident that Barisan Nasional (BN) will secure a victory in the upcoming Mahkota by-election, anticipating strong support from both Chinese and Indian voters.

MIC President Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran described this optimism, emphasising the crucial role of BN within the Unity Government.

"BN will win because people are recognising the importance of our coalition in the Unity Government.

"We expect substantial support from both Chinese and Indian voters," he told reporters at the World Trade Centre (WTC) during the Umno General Assembly 2024.

Vigneswaran also praised Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's speech, noting its positive impact on Umno’s grassroots level.

"Zahid's speech was excellent and has further solidified grassroots commitment to activating more branches and strengthening Umno’s presence," he said.

The MIC President believes this renewed dynamism within Umno will improve the party's acceptance among the Malay community.

"This year, I observe the characteristics and efforts being made, and I hope this will further strengthen Umno's acceptance across all Malaysians, especially within the Malay community," he added.

When asked about MIC's plans for the 16th General Election (GE16), Vigneswaran said that the party is currently focused on bolstering grassroots support before making further decisions.

"There’s still time before GE16. MIC is concentrating on strengthening our grassroots support first, and then we will address the election plans," he said.
