MELAKA - A woman was charged in the Melaka Magistrate’s Court on Friday for allegedly biting her neighbour's nose in January.

The accused, Adrienne Liew Siew Wern, 37, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri after the charge was read.

According to the charge, the woman was accused of intentionally causing injury to her 40-year-old male neighbour by biting his nose.

The incident allegedly took place at a house at Jalan Bunga Raya 3, Taman Bunga Raya, Bukit Beruang, in the Melaka Tengah district at about 6pm on Jan 19.

If found guilty, she could face up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fiqri Hakim Zamri proposed bail at RM8,000 for the accused.

However, lawyer Cassian Anthony appealed for a lower bail, citing that his client, who is still single, works as a pharmacy assistant earning a monthly salary of RM3,500 and has to care for her mother, who is suffering from brain cancer.

The court granted bail at RM4,000 and set September 6 for the next mention and submission of documents.

Meanwhile, according to sources, the incident occurred because the accused could not tolerate the noise from renovation work being done by her neighbour.
