MCA and Umno forms the very foundation of BN, Wee squashes disloyalty rumours
He said that this alliance was the spirit of BN and has remained consistent throughout the years.
KUALA LUMPUR - MCA's loyalty to Barisan Nasional (BN) should not be questioned, says party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
He stressed that the alliance between MCA and Umno forms the very foundation of BN, and this historical bond remains unshaken.
"The issue of loyalty never came up because we formed BN. In fact, before Perikatan Nasional (PN) was formed, the first two parties in the alliance were MCA and Umno. So, it is not a question to ask," he told reporters during the 2024 Umno General Assembly today.
He said that this alliance was the spirit of BN and has remained consistent throughout the years.
"Until today, this spirit will not change. Of course, the party needs to adapt and make adjustments to suit the needs of the people, but that is something we need to calibration," he said.
Wee's remarks come at a time when questions about MCA's commitment to the BN coalition grew stronger among both people in politics and Malaysians in general.
Previously, it was reported that there were claims where MCA might leave the coalition after 72 years as they have felt 'sidelined'.
BN has also addressed the matter with the coalition's secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, denying these claims saying that BN continuously held supreme council meetings, and discussions of them wanting to leave the party were never raised.
He also highlighted that the MCA president and secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon themselves had confirmed that the claims were baseless.
