KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Kluang Division has submitted three names as potential candidates to contest in the Mahkota state assembly by-election taking place on Sept 28.

However, Kluang Division Chief Datuk Mohd Jais Sardi did not reveal the names just yet.

It was understood that the names being proposed were Mahkota's Division Chief, the Women’s Wing Vice Chief, and the Youth Chief.

“We will send three candidates, but we cannot disclose their names. The list of candidates includes all (Division Chief, Women’s Wing Vice Chief, and Youth Chief of the state assembly),” he said during a press conference at the Umno General Assembly 2024 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

The Mahkota State Assembly seat became vacant following the death of the incumbent 63-year old Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2 while receiving treatment at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK), Kluang.

The former Johor Umno Women’s Chief had previously been admitted to the HEBHK Intensive Care Unit due to breathing difficulties.

The Mahkota State Assembly by-election will be the tenth by-election held after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.

Commenting further, Jais said the machinery at the Umno branch and Polling District Centre levels were ready a week after Sharifah Azizah’s death.

He said Pakatan Harapan will assist the machinery just as Umno helped them in the Pulai and Sungai Jeram by-elections previously.

“At the Barisan Nasional (BN) level, we have established the machinery. So, Umno and BN Kluang are almost ready to work.

“We have had discussions with our friends at the PH level. Although Amanah was initially a bit rigid, alhamdulillah it has been resolved. They will also assist us,” he added.
