Looking at the responses, we have seen some successes from Umno members, where they have their own individualistic approaches and many leaders today can even become influencers.

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said that Umno has become more aggressive on social media and seeing positive results from this approach.

Azalina said that this year's Umno General Assembly is different from last year.

“The spirit is different and one of the highlights is the presence of many young people.

“I observed from the responses at the Umno Youth, Puteri Umno and Wanita Umno gatherings that there were many young attendees.

“This might be a sign that Umno is starting to attract Generation Z (Gen Z),” she said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) also said that based on last year's state election and the by-elections that followed, social media has played a positive role.

“On behalf of Umno, as the Umno Information Chief, we are now more aggressive with social media, especially with the training we provide.

“Looking at the responses, we have seen some successes from Umno members, where they have their own individualistic approaches and many leaders today can even become influencers.

“If we look at the recent N43 (Nenggiri by-election), not only was the candidate well-known on TikTok, but many other political leaders were also famous,” she said.

Azalina further said that the messaging strategy implemented by Umno Information since the beginning of 2024, coupled with the training provided, has produced positive results.

She said the efforts have led to increased awareness and a stronger role for social media in reaching the public.
