KUALA LUMPUR - Two boys who were trapped in an apartment elevator near Taman Desa Petaling, Cheras on Monday are believed to have been stuck due to slippers being placed between the elevator doors, causing it to stop.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident went viral on social media.

The footage showed one of the boys putting slippers in between the elevator doors several times, which activated the auto-lock system and caused the elevator to stop at the fourth floor.

Previously, another CCTV video showed the two boys lying on the floor of the elevator sleeping after being trapped inside for hours.

On Tuesday, it was reported that initially, the two boys were thought to be missing but actually, they were trapped in an apartment elevator for more than nine hours, the day before.

The boys were eventually located through a CCTV footage reviewed by the apartment management.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ravinder Singh Sarban Singh said the police received a report about the missing children around 9.26pm.

He said the victims were later found to be trapped in the elevator on the fourth floor of the apartment through CCTV checks.
