KUALA LUMPUR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must face the consequences for his actions in questioning the responsibilities and role of Sultan Pahang and then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi slammed Muhyiddin for appearing unwilling to accept that Al-Sultan Abdullah’s decision to establish a Unity Government was aimed at easing political tensions after the 15th General Election (GE15).

"I have great respect for the statement made by the Pahang Crown Prince (Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah), which should be seen as a consequence of recklessly raising this issue," Zahid said after officiating the Closing Ceremony of the Datuk Nurul Amal Speech Cup, held in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly 2024 (PAU2024) today.

Earlier, media reports indicated that Muhyiddin had provided a statement to the police regarding his comments, which allegedly touched on sensitive issues involving royalty, religion, and race (3R) during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

The former prime minister was reported to have claimed that the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong did not invite him to be sworn in as prime minister, despite his sufficient support from Members of Parliament.

Zahid, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister accused the Bersatu President of being "obsessed with power" after failing to secure the prime minister position following GE15.

"This individual seems obsessed with power because he did not regain the prime minister position.

"Perhaps his remarks during the Nenggiri by-election campaign were highly disrespectful to the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong," added Zahid.
