SHAH ALAM - "It Ends With Us," star Blake Lively has faced significant criticism from audiences, including fans and readers of the adapted book, over her recent actions and public statements.

Critics have labelled her responses as "tone deaf" and "inappropriate," given the film’s sensitive subject matter of domestic violence.

Fans have expressed disapproval over Lively’s promotion of a new hair product shortly after the film's release, feeling it was out of touch with the movie's serious themes.

Her “bubbly attitude” while promoting the film, including comments like "Grab your friends, wear your florals, and head out to see it," has also been slammed for not aligning with the film’s heavy subject matter.

Lively's comments during an interview, where she joked about helping fans with abusive partners by saying, "I can just location share (with) you, and then we could... [laughs]," were perceived as insensitive and dismissive of the issues portrayed in the movie.

Lively has been accused of displaying "mean girl energy" after an incident during a 2016 interview with reporter Kjersti Flaa.

Flaa, who revealed her struggles with infertility, took offence at Lively’s comment, "Congrats on your little bump!"

This incident reportedly led to Flaa feeling that Lively’s remarks were like "a bullet" and felt ignored by Lively and her co-star Parker Posey during the rest of the interview.

Recent rumours suggested tensions between Lively and the film’s director, Justin Baldoni, who played the abusive husband in the movie.

There were reports of disagreements on creative control, and speculation arose from their lack of public photos together at the movie's New York premiere on Aug 6.

Social media has registered that Lively follows other co-stars but not Baldoni, adding fuel to the rumours.

Lively has also reportedly hired a different editor for the movie, allegedly due to dissatisfaction with Baldoni’s cuts, leading to claims of her being "rude" and "controlling."

The controversy extended to Baldoni's remarks about Lively, including a comment about her weight, which he made in relation to a scene where he had to carry her.

This has been perceived as "fat-shaming."

Despite the backlash, some defended Lively, suggesting that the criticism is part of a broader pattern of unfairly targeting women in the spotlight.

The debate over Lively’s actions and her treatment by the public continues as the movie’s promotional period unfolds.
