SHAH ALAM - A farmer implicated in the tragic case of two young siblings who died after consuming snacks laced with rat poison has declared his innocence and is contemplating legal action to clear his name.

In a video posted on Facebook, the farmer, identified himself as Uzair, provided his side of the story, insisted that he has been unjustly accused.

"I was the farmer who was detained for eight days, unjustly. I was wronged," Uzair said in the video.

Uzair claimed that the snacks in question were placed on a fence four and a half feet high, making it highly unlikely that a two or three-year-old child could reach them.

He also clarified that the snacks were not left by the roadside but within a fenced area near his banana plantation, where other villagers similarly hang snacks on trees.

He further stressed that he never attempted to flee after the incident and fully cooperated with the police.

He recounted that he was eventually detained after one of the victims passed away while he was visiting his in-laws' home.

Uzair also claimed that he had reported monkey attacks on his farm to authorities since 2021, but no action was taken.

He expressed frustration over the misinformation surrounding the incident and thanked those who supported him online.

When questioned by a Facebook user, Uzair confirmed his intention to contest the case in court to avoid being unjustly imprisoned.

On July 10th, it was reported that three-year-old Muhammad Akil Syauqi Nur Sufyan, who had fallen critically ill after consuming the poisoned snacks, passed away at 8.30am.

His younger brother, Muhammad Luth Syauqi, 2, tragically died at 1.24pm on July 12th.
