GUA MUSANG - Barisan Nasional (BN) has successfully regained the Nenggiri state assembly seat with its candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, winning decisively in the by-election, according to unofficial results as of 8.30pm.

Azmawi, also known as Awie, won with a majority of 3,372 votes, defeating Pas candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

Azmawi, who is also the Kelantan Umno Youth chief and Gua Musang, received 9,113 votes, while Mohd Rizwadi, more commonly known as Ustaz Wadi, garnered 5,741 votes.

The Nenggiri by-election saw a two-cornered seat between the BN candidate and the Pas candidate from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The Nenggiri seat has been a traditional BN stronghold since its inception, before the party lost it in the state election in Aug 2023.

At that time, the seat was won by PN's candidate, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who contested under Pas's logo.

A total of 20,259 registered voters were eligible to vote in the by-election.

The by-election for the Nenggiri seat was held following the vacancy announced by the Kelantan DUN Speaker Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, after the former incumbent was expelled from Bersatu on June 13.
