GUA MUSANG - Kelantan police have opened six investigation papers out of 18 police reports lodged during the Nenggiri by-election campaign period.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said among the cases being investigated involved an edited audio clip.

He confirmed that the cases were being investigated under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1948, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

"Investigations are ongoing and we cannot solely rely on videos or audio presented by certain parties. Instead, they will be referred to forensics.

"In this matter, we are impartial and the investigation will be conducted as thoroughly as possible.

"I urge everyone to be patient," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting the polling centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Asap, today.

Also present was Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo.

As the by-election results are set to be announced tonight, Zaki called for calm and urged all parties to avoid provocations.

"We hope everyone acts maturely. Avoid provocations and those who win can celebrate their victory at their respective headquarters.

"We have also stationed personnel in preparation for tonight," he said.
