GUA MUSANG - Elderly voters at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Jeram Tekoh polling centre hope that their chosen leader will be more responsible and attentive to the welfare of the people.

They see the Nenggiri state assembly by-election as an opportunity for the new representative to demonstrate their ability to uphold the government’s and the people’s trust.

Deraman Salleh, 70, emphasised the importance of voters choosing the best candidate to prevent past issues from recurring.

"Choosing the right candidate is crucial, and the most important thing is to address the needs of the people, whether they are from the Federal Government or the state government," he said.

The by-election was called after the seat became vacant, as announced by Kelantan Dun Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah on June 19, following the dismissal of the previous incumbent, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, by Bersatu on June 13.

Meanwhile, Shamsiah Ibrahim, 64, did not miss the opportunity to vote with her son, Mohd Nor Asrul Zakaria, 39, despite using a wheelchair after losing her leg to diabetes.

Shamsiah was eager to vote to support her preferred candidate in Nenggiri.

"We hope for progress in this Dun through the new representative," she said.

Hassan Mat Noor, 80, hopes that the new representative will help secure land grants, as he has lived here for over 40 years.

"This issue has been ongoing for a long time, and we urgently need it for our children and grandchildren as we are getting older," he said.

His friend, Majid Ibrahim, 84, also wants the land grant issue resolved so he no longer has to worry about the future of his children and grandchildren.
