Pregnancy trauma limits couple’s family plans
A woman said her health deteriorated in the eighth month of her pregnancy, restricting her mobility.
SHAH ALAM – The trauma of experiencing an asthma attack during her first pregnancy led Amirah, a 39-year-old private sector worker to decide to limit the number of children she has.
Amirah, who preferred to be identified only by her first name, said her health deteriorated in the eighth month of her pregnancy, restricting her mobility.
She said during her pregnancy, the doctor advised her against walking much and she had to undergo surgery rather than natural birth.
Although many had asked her about having more children, she said she believed it was not meant to be.
She added that she found solace in focusing on her child and career.
"If it were up to me, I would have more children, but my health just doesn't allow it. The trauma from the problematic stitches during my surgery still affects me.
"After such a terrifying experience, I've decided not to have more children in the near future.
"Despite a strong desire to be pregnant again, I have had to give up that wish for the sake of my health," Amirah said.
She said her husband understood her struggles.
She advised couples going through similar challenges to not be disheartened.
"Perhaps there is a greater purpose in store," she added.
