GUA MUSANG - Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has highlighted the critical importance of selecting the right leaders in the upcoming Nenggiri by-election, warning against complacency that could result in poor governance.

As Nenggiri prepares for its pivotal by-election this Saturday, Hadi urged voters to make thoughtful decisions, emphasising the moral and religious significance of this choice.

Speaking at Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Grand Finale Ceramah in Kampung Jerek here, Hadi highlighted Islamic teachings stressing the importance of electing leaders who embody integrity and understanding.

“Insyallah, in just a few days, the people of Nenggiri will vote. Choosing leaders is the people's right. Islam teaches us to select leaders through consultation among the people.

“Unfortunately, among us, Malays and Muslims, there is a lack of awareness about the importance of this matter,” he said.

Hadi cautioned against underestimating the gravity of this decision, citing Islamic teachings and historical perspectives on governance.

“Allah will question us on the Day of Judgement about the leaders we chose in this world. Do not underestimate this issue, as it is not a trivial matter,” he said.

He compared the current state of Umno to a "senile" entity due to its long tenure and internal issues.

“Umno, which has ruled this country for a long time, is now senile, appointing people as they please. That is why many of its members have left Umno.

“Or they may still be within Umno but do not vote for or support the party. Umno has been afflicted by the sickness of old age,” Hadi added.

He also stressed the need to elect leaders who understand the concepts of sin and virtue, asserting that leadership is a critical issue not to be taken lightly.

“It is not a trivial matter to select a leader who is capable of leading the community. Leaders should be those who understand the concepts of sin and virtue.

“The people need to choose a party that is truthful, and not one led by individuals who frequently lie and fail to deliver on their promises,” he said.
