Newborn baby found in basin near garbage bin
The baby was discovered by two men after they heard crying at around 4.50pm on Wednesday.
IPOH - A newborn baby girl, still with her umbilical cord attached, was found in a basin placed near a garbage bin in Pekan Titi Serong, Parit Buntar on Wednesday.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris stressed that the unfortunate baby was discovered by two men who heard her cries while passing by the area at about 4.50pm.
He said the men then took the baby to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) office before filing a police report.
"An investigation at the scene found that the location was in the Pekan Titi Serong area, near the main road.
"There were two green garbage bins placed on the roadside and the baby was found behind these bins.
"Upon examination, the baby was believed to be in poor health, weighing 2.1 kg.
"There were yellow marks on the baby's forehead, and her hands were wrinkled, possibly due to the cold," he told reporters during a press conference at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Thursday.
Azizi added that the baby had been sent to the hospital for further treatment, and the actual status of the baby's health has yet to be determined.
Additionally, he highlighted that an investigation is underway, examining CCTV footage from nearby shops.
He emphasised that the police would also record statements from witnesses and conduct genetic testing to identify the baby's parents.
Azizi said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code.
