Fan club supports ultras' stand against FAM
Faizal also slammed FAM's seemingly dismissive response to the boycott, urging the association to take the concerns of the ultras seriously.
SHAH ALAM - The Anak Selangor Fan Club (ASFC) has voiced support for the boycott of the Pestabola Merdeka 2024 tournament by Ultras Malaya and various state sub-ultras, attributing the action to the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) failure to address several ongoing issues.
ASFC President Mohd Faizal Wahid acknowledged that while the boycott negatively impacts the national football team, it could be a necessary step to push FAM to reform the national football ecosystem.
"We at ASFC stand with Ultras Malaya because, as the twelfth man behind the players, this action should send a strong message to FAM, the body responsible for managing the national football team," Faizal said.
He expressed disappointment over the lingering issues affecting the national squad and the unresolved problems from the previous season in the Malaysian League.
Faizal also slammed FAM's seemingly dismissive response to the boycott, urging the association to take the concerns of the ultras seriously.
Faizal suggested that FAM should organise a meeting with Ultras Malaya, state sub-ultras, and supporter clubs to discuss and resolve the issues.
"If FAM, as the governing body, can hold dialogues with the ultras and supporter clubs, we believe that many of the challenges in the national football arena can be addressed collaboratively," he added.
He emphasised the significant influence that supporters have on motivating the national team and highlighted their dedication, noting that their sacrifices of time, energy, and money go beyond any financial reward.
