SHAH ALAM – Bridgenet Solutions Bhd (Bridgenet) is stepping in to provide crucial support amidst the growing importance of cybersecurity in Malaysia.

The rapid pace of digital transformation has highlighted the need for sturdy cybersecurity measures across all sectors, especially after the country experienced nearly half a million leaked accounts from data breaches in the third quarter of the previous year.

Its group chief executive officer (CEO) Keane Leong, emphasised in a recent speech that there has been a dramatic rise in cyber threats in recent years, including data breaches and ransomware attacks.

“These incidents not only disrupt our operations, but also erode trust and confidence in our digital systems.

“As we embrace the digital economy, ensuring robust cybersecurity measures is no longer an option but a necessity,” he said at the inaugural Cybersecurity Act Symposium.

In response, the Cybersecurity Act 2024 was tabled for its first reading in the Malaysian Parliament on March 25, 2024, aiming to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework to enhance Malaysia's cybersecurity landscape.

Bridgenet, founded in 2003, has evolved from a specialised service provider in computer support systems to a leader in ICT solutions, focusing on empowering clients to maintain and secure their IT infrastructures.

Following its strategic partnership with CelcomDigi in 2021, Bridgenet has become a key player in accelerating digital transformations and modernising ICT infrastructures with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity.

The company supports national initiatives like the Cybersecurity Act 2024, which mandates national critical information infrastructure (NCII) entities to comply with specific cybersecurity measures and standards.

To further this mission, Bridgenet recently hosted the inaugural Cybersecurity Act Symposium at Le Meridien, Kuala Lumpur. This event brought together industry leaders, government officials, and cybersecurity professionals to discuss the implications and opportunities presented by the new Act.

Keane Leong stressed the symposium provided a platform for key industry stakeholders to delve into actionable insights and best practices in cybersecurity.

Key highlights from the event included an in-depth analysis of the Cybersecurity Act and its impact on businesses and individuals, followed by a panel discussion where experts from various sectors discussed strategies for compliance and risk management.

Additionally, PIKOM, The National Tech Association of Malaysia, Deputy Chairman and moderator of the symposium, Alex Liew emphasised that the event highlighted crucial aspects of the Cybersecurity Act, providing participants with invaluable insights into compliance and best practices in cybersecurity.

In the meantime, LGMS Berhad, Founder & Executive Chairman, and symposium panellist, Fong Choong Fook highlighted that the event offered a thorough overview of the Cybersecurity Act and its implications.

“It was an excellent platform for knowledge sharing and networking among industry peers,” he added.

Another of the event’s panellists, Managing Partner of Tan & Co, Advocates and Solicitors, Marcus Tan commented on the symposium’s importance from the legal perspective.

“The symposium served as a vital forum for understanding the legal nuances of the Cybersecurity Act, equipping attendees with the necessary knowledge to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape,” he added.

Workshops and interactive sessions also provided hands-on experience and practical knowledge on implementing cybersecurity measures for attendees.

Moreover, the exhibition area showcased the latest technologies and services from leading cybersecurity solution providers, offering attendees a glimpse into the future of digital security.

Meanwhile, Bridgenet Solutions, Chief Technology Officer, Loy Kuang Haow emphasised that the event highlighted the company's commitment to spearheading advancements in cybersecurity.

“The insights shared have equipped us and our partners with the knowledge to better protect our infrastructure and data,” Loy said.
