KUALA LUMPUR - The police have arrested the player caught on video bringing a sharp weapon to a football field during a disagreement following a match at the KLFA Football Centre here last Sunday.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail, in a statement, said the 22-year-old man was arrested at his house in Klang at about 6.30pm yesterday.

He said police also arrested a girlfriend of the suspect, a foreign national aged 21.

According to Mohamad Lazim, the suspect admitted to having taken a "kerambit” (small curved knife) into the football to defend himself during the incident.

"The man is on remand for four days until this Monday (Aug 12) for investigations under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 while his girlfriend, who has no valid travel documents, is detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.

A video went viral early last Sunday showing an image of a football player holding a sharp weapon suspected to be a "kerambit” during an argument on the field after a match. - BERNAMA
