PARIS - Around 40 French museums, including the Grand Palais where Olympic events are being held, fell victim to a ransomware attack last weekend, reported Xinhua on Tuesday, citing local media BFMTV.

The ransomware encrypts files to prevent access and typically demands a ransom for their release, according to the French National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) and the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office.

The origin and perpetrators of the attack remain unknown, but investigations are underway. There has been no reported impact on the staging of the Olympic or Paralympic Games, according to ANSSI.

The French government revealed that, since July 22, they have detected and thwarted 68 cyberattacks targeting Olympic Games operations. - BERNAMA
