SEPANG - National sprint champion Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi now sports a fresher look in conjunction with his debut appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Gone is the long 'mullet' hairstyle; Muhammad Azeem has opted to sprint at the Stade de France with a new, shorter, and tidier hairstyle.

The 20-year-old athlete joked that he might keep his new haircut if he achieves notable success at this Olympic Games.

"This new hairstyle is to build up my confidence. Actually, I haven't cut my hair for almost three years; previously, I stuck with the 'mullet', but this time it's considered short.

"This hairstyle isn't inspired by anyone; this is what I want to do," he said when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 here before his departure for Paris yesterday.

Muhammad Azeem will participate in the men's 100 metres at Paris 2024 on a wildcard ticket.

The athletics competition will run from Thursday to Aug 11.

Additionally, the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games men's 100m bronze medallist does not view the early elimination of three national athletes from the 2024 Olympic Games negatively.

Muhammad Azeem, who holds the national 100m record of 10.09s, said he is proud of the fighting spirit shown by those athletes although they were not fortunate enough to progress further in Paris.

The three national representatives who were eliminated early are swimmers Khiew Hoe Yean and Tan Rouxin, as well as shooter Johnathan Wong. - BERNAMA
