KUALA LUMPUR - Rembia state assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis, who was previously suspended of his membership in Umno, has confirmed joining Pas.

The matter was announced by Pas secretary-general who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan in a press conference at the Parliament building, here, today.

"I would like to confirm that the Rembia assemblyman in the Alor Gajah parliamentary constituency has applied to become a member of Pas and he has been accepted as a member of Pas on June 10, 2023.

"So I want to announce that in Melaka state assembly there are now not two opposition members but three comprising the assemblymen of Bemban, Sungai Udang and Rembia," he told reporters.

Takiyuddin said that Muhamad Jailani's move was not considered party jumping considering the amendment to the Melaka State Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2023 related to party jumping was approved on July 31, 2023, after Jailani joined Pas.

Based on a letter from the Umno Disciplinary Board dated 28 August last year, Jailani was charged with sabotage against the party because he deliberately attended the PN candidate announcement ceremony for the Simpang Jeram state by-election in Bakri, Johor. - BERNAMA
