Hit-and-run car falls into sewage pond after fender bender with delivery boy
Driver's escape takes a muddy turn
SUNGAI PETANI - A driver in Sungai Petani went from fender bender to sewage disaster yesterday.
The drama unfolded around 4.25pm near a Taman Sri Wang petrol station.
According to Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, the driver initially claimed to have missed a turn, causing him to swerve suddenly before colliding with a food delivery rider.
"The driver initially claimed he missed a turn.
"However, the investigation revealed he was in the same lane as the rider and swerved left, causing the collision," he said.
The motorcyclist sustained injuries to the forehead, cheek, hands, and legs.
The driver, fearing the consequences, fled the scene but lost control of his car shortly after and ended up in a sewage pond about 100 metres away.
"Statements have been recorded, and the vehicle is being detained for inspection," said Azharuddin.
The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
