IPOH - A man's attempt to impersonate a soldier backfired when he was arrested at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old suspect’s actions were noticed by a real soldier who observed that the man was wearing his uniform incorrectly.

The soldier approached the suspect and asked him to show his military ID card, but the man failed to do so and instead only showed his MyKad.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the arrest was made after receiving a report from the 36-year-old soldier.

"Several items were seized from the suspect, including a pair of camouflage uniforms, a pair of black tactical boots, a T-shirt and a belt with a metal buckle.

"Initial investigations revealed that the suspect wore the military uniform at the hospital to attract public attention and to get free food," he said when contacted here on Thursday.

He added that the suspect also expressed an interest in becoming a soldier.

"The suspect said that the military uniform was purchased at a clothing store in Tambun.

"The investigation is being conducted under Section 140 of the Penal Code for wearing military attire," he said.
