Rat poison victim Muhammad Akil Syauqi laid to rest

BALING - The boy who died after consuming snacks suspected to contain rat poison was laid to rest at the Kampung Banggol Berangan Muslim Cemetery near here yesterday.

Muhammad Akil Syauqi Nur Sufyan, aged three, was buried at about 9.45 pm, after the body was taken from Penang Hospital to his grandparents' house in Kampung Banggol Berangan at around 6 pm.

About 300 people, including the boy's mother, Nurain Hasnorizal, 25, and family members attended the burial.

The funeral prayer was held at Surau Lebai Ahmad, led by Abdul Manaf L Saad, the imam of Al Halimi Mosque, Kampung Selarong.

Muhammad Akil Syauqi and his brother, Muhammad Luth Syauqi, aged two, fell critically ill after consuming the snacks in Kampung Padang Ubi, Labu Besar on Sunday.

The snacks were believed to have been placed on a fence by a farm owner to trap monkeys.

Muhammad Akil Syauqi died at 8.40 am today while his brother is still unconscious at Penang Hospital. - BERNAMA
