SHAH ALAM - Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman acknowledged a mistake during the Desaru 113 International Long Distance Triathlon Championship in Desaru, Johor, last Sunday, which resulted in him being awarded third place in the competition.

Syed Saddiq stated that his status for the triathlon has now been changed to "Did Not Finish" (DNF).

In a post on the platform X on Wed, Syed Saddiq openly apologised for the matter and said that it was an honest mistake.

“I have received updates and the latest data as requested. The data provided by the technical team includes breakdowns from each lap.

"After rechecking my smartwatch data, it is clear there was a mistake and I take full responsibility for it.

"This was an honest mistake on my part. Even after reviewing the issue during the race and informing the technical team, as a participant, I should have been more responsible,” he said.

Additionally, he also apologised to the triathlon community and acknowledged that he should have been more cautious regarding the issue.

“After speaking with the organisers and technical representatives, it is better for my status to be DNF.

“They also acknowledged that this was an honest mistake,” he added.

Previously, social media was abuzz with claims that Syed Saddiq did not finish his race during the triathlon, thus questioning his third-place victory.
