SUNGAI BAKAP - An elderly voter woke up as early as 4.30am just to fulfill her responsibility of voting in the Sungai Bakap state by-election.

Hashimah Ahmad, 74, was among the first to arrive at the polling station at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Duri at around 7.30am, today.

She said although it only took about 15 minutes to reach the polling station, she left early with her child to avoid congestion.

"I came early to vote early. If I come late, there won't be any parking. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to vote. I woke up early at 4.30am, finished washing the clothes and hung them out to dry.

"I have to come early because if it rains, it might interfere with my plans," she said.

Hashimah also advised young eligible voters not to miss the chance to fulfill their responsibility as Sungai Bakap state constituents.

The Sungai Bakap state by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff, who passed away on May 24.

Two candidates contesting were Pakatan Harapan (PH) representative Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Abidin Ismail.
