Sungai Bakap polls: Students anticipate by-election with high hopes for political change

NIBONG TEBAL - Two 18-year-old students, Rifqi Mizal Ahmad Fakhrul Amin and Raneshdev Devandran are eagerly anticipating the upcoming by-election due to their interest in politics.

Raneshdev expressed his support for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin, citing his educational qualification of a PhD.

"I just got my examination result but despite getting 6As, I only got polytechnic," he said, voicing his disappointment with his University Central Unit (UPU) result and not getting his university of choice.

He further described his interest in politics, inspired by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman's recent 200KM run, and noted that he would undertake similar initiatives if he were a politician.

"I also advocate for mature politics in the future, where more activities such as the recent friendly football match between PH and PN (Perikatan Nasional) can be done," he added.

His friend, Rifqi felt bad that his friend did not get into his desired university despite his good Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results.

Rifqi, who is set to attend polytechnic, highlighted the importance of education in politics to foster better arguments and initiatives for the country.

He commended the recent football match between the PH and the Opposition, stating that such events could help people get along better than constant arguments in Parliament.

In a related matter, Mohd Khairul Anwar Abdul Rahman, a 35-year-old civil servant said that traffic in Sungai Bakap was among the worst.

"I hope the future candidate I vote for can focus on improving the traffic situation here, where traffic congestions are unusually long every time we go back from work," he said.

He also voiced confidence in his candidate of choice to solve the state’s problems based on their qualifications.

Voters are expected to cast their votes tomorrow at their nearest polling stations, with the election results to be announced at night.
