SHAH ALAM - Kedah Football Association (KFA) President Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor expressed his unwavering support for Selangor FC amidst an ongoing controversy.

This gesture comes in response to recent penalties imposed on Selangor FC by the Malaysian Football League (MFL), which triggered disapproval from various quarters, including the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Expressing his solidarity, Sanusi took to his official Facebook account to convey a message of encouragement.

He declared that despite the challenges faced by Selangor FC, they are not alone in their struggle, with the silent majority of Malaysians standing firmly behind the team.

"They are not alone, believe me. The silent majority of people in this country support Selangor FC. Menjunjung kasih Tuanku!" the statement read.

Selangor and Kedah may be rivals on the field, but in these critical moments, they are extending mutual support.

Despite their rivalry in sports, the Kedah Menteri Besar has stepped forward to support Selangor FC.

The controversy arose following Selangor FC's absence from the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on May 10, which also marked the commencement of the Super League.

The subsequent penalties imposed by MFL included a hefty RM100,000 fine, compensation costs borne by both the home team and MFL, a deduction of three league points, and a match to be played behind closed doors (LS14).

Sultan Sharafudin strongly disapproved of these sanctions, denouncing them as excessive and lacking in compassion.

His Majesty highlighted that the penalties were imposed despite victory being awarded to JDT due to Selangor FC's absence.

In response to the Sultan's concerns, the MFL Board of Directors announced a reconsideration of the imposed penalties.

This decision was made as a mark of respect and in acknowledgment of Sultan Sharafudin's views, aiming to address the perceived injustice and uphold fairness in football governance.
