SUNGAI PETANI - A baby boy was rescued by staff of the Orphancare Foundation here after being left with his placenta wrapped in a sarong on April 23.

The baby, believed to be newly born, is described as fair-skinned with slightly brown hair and was reported to be in good health.

Kuala Muda District Social Welfare officer Fatin Nur Alia Mat Zawi said that the baby was discovered by on-duty staff, abandoned at the premises at approximately 5.15am.

Upon inspection, she said the staff found the placenta wrapped in a sarong placed alongside the baby.

"The baby was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) here for medical treatment," she said.

Fatin added that the baby, named Muhammad Salleh, had been receiving treatment at HSAH since April 23 before being discharged on June 2.

"He is now under the care of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) at Taman Sinar Harapan Jitra, Kedah.

"The public who have any information are requested to come forward to the Kuala Muda JKM Office or the nearest office," she said.

Salleh is reported to be healthy and his age is estimated to be about two months now.

She said the media release was made to trace his relatives, in addition to being a reference for the relevant parties.

If no relatives come forward, Salleh would be handed over to a foster family following the procedures set by JKM.

The Orphancare Foundation, located in Taman Ria Jaya here, is open 24 hours to save babies from being abandoned in inappropriate places.
