As technology advances, more fathers are using modern gadgets to build closer relationships with their children.

These fathers are embracing social media, gaming and educational applications, breaking the stereotype and creating meaningful interactions in innovative ways.

They are far removed from the traditional image of the fathers who struggled to set the time on the videocassette recorder (VCR).

Instead, they are skilled at using digital technology whether it is updating their Instagram stories, playing the latest video games or using educational applications to support their children’s learning.

This digital proficiency is not just about staying current, it is about actively engaging in their children's world.

Dhev Raj, a 43-year-old marketing executive, uses Instagram to stay connected with his teenage daughter, Dhivyasree.

"I started posting about our weekend hikes and DIY projects and soon, Dhivyasree began to engage more with me. It gave us common ground and something to talk about beyond the usual 'How was your day?'," he said.

Through shared posts and stories, fathers like Dhev are finding new ways to bond with their children.

Social media becomes a platform for shared experiences and mutual interests.

It also allows fathers to be part of their children’s lives in real-time, celebrating achievements, offering support and even sharing a laugh over a funny meme.

Gaming has also become a significant bridge between fathers and their children.

For 42-year-old businessman Desmond Paul, video games are more than just entertainment and they are a way to bond with his 10-year-old son, Frederick.

He said video games offer a unique, interactive experience that traditional activities often cannot match.

They require teamwork, strategic thinking and communication skills that are valuable both in and out of the game.

"By playing together, we share victories, learn from defeats and develop a rapport that extends beyond the screen," he said.

This approach to parenting fosters a more open and communicative relationship.

By engaging in activities that interest their children, fathers can better understand their worlds, leading to deeper conversations and stronger emotional bonds.

It breaks down generational barriers, allowing for a more dynamic and reciprocal relationship.

Challenges and Considerations

Despite the many advantages, tech-savvy parenting is not without its challenges.

The digital world can be a double-edged sword, with issues such as screen time management and exposure to inappropriate content.

Fathers must navigate these challenges by setting boundaries and ensuring that technology use remains healthy and balanced.
