SHAH ALAM - The charges against the parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin concern neglect, not abuse causing physical injury.

Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said that the charges brought today involve Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, based on the police investigation.

"The charges against both accused only state neglect, not abuse that causes physical injury.

"The charges are based on the available evidence and the prosecution's testimony.

"For now, those are the charges, not under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said during a press conference at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex on Thursday.

He added that the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code is not over.

"We are confident that the police will continue their efforts to find the real perpetrator and bring them to justice," he said.

Earlier today, Zayn Rayyan's parents pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to a charge of neglecting their six-year-old autistic child in December last year.
