'Show the evidence like they did with Najib' - Tun Mahathir
Dr Mahathir maintains innocence, calls for evidence of corruption.
TASNIM LOKMAN ASHWIN KUMARSHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has claimed his innocence amidst ongoing investigations, declaring that he has no fear of any inquiries as he maintains that he is not corrupt.
Dr Mahathir shared these sentiments during an episode of Sinar Daily’s Fireside Chat, stating that no concrete evidence of corruption has been produced against him.
"I have no fear because I am not corrupt. If you have the evidence, like documents, bank checks, which they had against Najib (jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak), then show it," he added.
He also challenged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to present proof of allegations, citing Anwar's previous claims of having substantial documentary evidence.
"He said he has boxes of documents. Show them, but he said, no, we cannot show. It's already been one year," Dr Mahathir said.
In a related matter, the former Langkawi MP also revealed that his family members, particularly his children, were not involved in politics or business in Malaysia during his tenure, adhering strictly to his governance ethics.
"My children were not allowed to engage in politics or business in Malaysia when I was the prime minister," he added.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that there are no immediate plans to arrest Dr Mahathir following their investigations into asset declarations.
On Jan 18 and Jan 26, the MACC issued notices to Mirzan and Mokhzani to declare all movable and immovable assets within and outside the country.
Sinar Daily was informed that Mirzan and Mokhzani are not under investigation. The reason they need time is not because of their perceived wealth as previously reported, but because they are required to declare assets of over a period of 43 years.
