'Don't damage, urinate or litter in elevators, don't make me install CCTVs in there' - Nga Kor Ming

IPOH - The Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Ministry reminds residents of the People's Housing Programme (PPR) flats to take care of the provided facilities, including the elevator.

Its minister Nga Kor Ming said the government has approved an allocation of RM100 million to upgrade elevators at PPRs nationwide.

"So I ask the residents' cooperation to avoid acts of vandalism and take care all the facilities that have been installed.

"Don't damage, don't urinate in elevators, don't litter and don't force me to install CCTVs (closed circuit television cameras) in the elevators.

"That happened in the 70s in Singapore when the late Lee Kuan Yew found out that people were urinating in the elevator, so the Singapore government had to install CCTVs in the elevators," he told reporters after the launching of Jalan Utama Bandar Seri Botani here, today.

He said house owners should settle their maintenance fee for the convenience of all parties.

"There is a PPR in Terengganu that has a maintenance debt of RM1.8 million and because of that all the elevators are broken and cannot be used. In the end the residents there have to climb up 20 floors every day.

"Don't trouble others and be fair to yourself and your neighbours, especially those who pay the fee," he said.

Nga said his ministry will continue with the Sentuhan Kasih programme tour which priortised the well-being and comfort of the people.

"We will bring some good news next week, especially the residents of low-cost apartment houses where the Madani government is committed to defend the fate of the people from the B40 group," he said.
