American pop star Halsey shares struggle with lupus

SHAH ALAM – International pop sensation Halsey, renowned for her powerful vocals and chart-topping hits, has recently opened up about her ongoing battle with lupus.

Halsey or her real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. 30, revealed her diagnosis in a heartfelt post on Instagram, where she shared a video of herself receiving treatment for the chronic autoimmune disease.

In the post, she said she aimed to raise awareness about the disease and share her personal journey with her followers.

"Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with The End. Out now," she wrote.

In one of her videos, Halsey was seen rubbing her legs in pain, documenting her recent health struggles.

She also expressed her frustration by saying that she felt like an old lady.

"At 30, I'm having a rebirth and I'm not going to be sick and I'm going to look super-hot and have lots of energy and I'm just going to get to redo my twenties and my thirties," she also said her post.

In one of the videos, Halsey was seen sitting in a chair connected to a machine, saying that it was the first day of her treatment.

In another clip, she was seen in the studio, strumming a guitar with her head shaved.

The post concluded with a series of videos showing Halsey crying, holding up medication and spending time in the hospital and studio.

"I'm releasing the first song off my 5th album tomorrow, 6/04 at 9 am PT / 12 ET. Before the first single comes, I wanted to share this. It means a lot to me, and I love it.

"Let's try something different this time and start at “The End," she wrote in a different post.

In her post, Halsey said her battle with lupus has been a significant yet often hidden part of her life.

Her post garnered an overwhelming amount of support from fans and fellow celebrities, all applauding her courage for addressing such a personal matter.

Halsey's openness about her struggle with lupus has sparked crucial discussions about invisible disabilities and offered solace to fans facing similar challenges.

According to health websites, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue.

This could lead to inflammation, swelling and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, heart, and lungs.

The symptoms vary widely among individuals but often include extreme fatigue, joint pain and a characteristic facial rash.

Halsey who was born on Sept 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey quickly rose to fame with her unique blend of electropop and indie pop sounds.

Her debut album, "Badlands" (2015) was a commercial success and established her as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Hits like "New Americana" and "Ghost" showcased her lyrical prowess and distinct vocal style.
