Liyana Marzuki launches debut book 'Jangan Pajak Otak'
The book delves into various facets of the political arena, from money politics to internal party conflicts.
KUALA LUMPUR – Political activist Liyana Marzuki has launched her debut book ’Jangan Pajak Otak’ (JPO) under the banner of Kumpulan Karangkraf.
This book offers a deep dive into Malaysia's political landscape and personal anecdotes, compiling Liyana’s insightful analyses from her six years of writing on Facebook and in local newspaper columns.
The launch ceremony was graced by former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who officiated the event and praised Liyana for her new literary venture.
“I would like to thank Liyana for inviting me here and offering me the opportunity to officiate her first book. Unfortunately, I have not read it yet, as I do not have a copy, but I believe Liyana will give it to me after the event.
“I am here to support Liyana in this new endeavour. She worked for me as a Legal Officer for four years and I always assumed that if she wrote a book, it would be about the law.
“It is wonderful that Liyana has written this book. We must encourage others to write and foster a culture of reading, which I believe is currently lacking. I congratulate Liyana on her book,” he said.
Liyana, who served as a Legal Officer under Ismail Sabri from 2008 to 2012, offers a unique perspective in her book.
JPO delved into various facets of the political arena, from money politics to internal party conflicts.
The book also tackles broader themes such as the ‘Malay Dilemma’ and the actions of religious extremists, presenting these complex topics in an accessible manner for the public.
Attendees at the event included Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and numerous social media influencers, reflecting the wide interest in Liyana’s work.
Karangkraf Group Chairman Firdaus Hussamuddin also accompanied Liyana and Ismail Sabri at the launch.
In addition to political commentary, JPO shares personal anecdotes from Liyana’s life, including her experiences studying in London and her tenure at the Attorney General's Chambers upon returning to Malaysia.
One notable story recounts how a former prime minister approached her to run in the 15th General Election, an offer she ultimately declined.
The reasons behind her decision were explored in the book.
JPO is structured into six chapters with a total of 14 stories. It includes forewords by esteemed figures such as former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
The book, priced at RM35, is available at major bookstores and online through Shopee and Karangkraf Mall.
Fans could also purchase signed copies and meet the author at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at the World Trade Centre (WTC) this Sunday.
Liyana would host a Meet and Greet session at 10.30am at the Karangkraf Booth, Tun Razak Hall 3, Level 3, WTC Kuala Lumpur.
