Ziana Zain defies time with spectacular concert

Her inimitable voice is no stranger to the local airwaves as it has been mesmerising the nation for almost four decades. With countless hit songs belonging to her name, Ziana Zain remains as one of Malaysia’s most celebrated songbirds.

Serenading Malaysians in a way that only she can, the star has had her fans humming so many of her tunes since the early 90s.

And after 22 years of not holding a large-scale concert, the national pop queen took centre stage at the Megastar Arena in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, on May 25, 2024 at the Ziana Zain Concert 2024.

"I am very grateful to be given the opportunity and energy to perform at the age of 56. Indeed, it is not something easy, but Alhamdulillah thanks to The Almighty, everything went smoothly," said Ziana at the press conference after the concert.

The star who has been longing to meet her loyal fans, gave her all that evening even though her voice was not at its maximum level.

“My voice is a little hoarse tonight. Furthermore, I had a full rehearsal with the musicians the night before," explained Ziana to the audience on the sidelines of the night's performance.

Nevertheless, Ziana fulfilled her audience's request. Her immaculate vocal prowess remains undeniable as every song that evening was well-sung.

As announced a few days before the concert, the singer who is also a doting mother of four managed to deliver 20 songs on the big stage.

Among the songs that were sung that night were her most popular hits such as Satu Detik, Sangkar Cinta, Fatalistik, Angapan Mu, Kekal, Bersama Akhirnya, Kemelut Di Muara Kasih, Dingin, Madah Berhelah and many more.

Ziana also held a song request session at the end of the concert by giving fans the opportunity to request the song they want to hear sung live in an acapella version. During the session, Ziana sang three songs including her hit Syurga Di Hati Kita, which received a rapturous applause.

Also known for her warm and friendly demeanour, it came to no surprise that Ziana took quite some time to chat and joke with her fans that night. And although a lot of time was spent chatting with fans, it was clear that the audience was not upset or even bored as they really wanted to hear their favorite singer's life stories.

That night, Ziana shared a lot about her life and family throughout the event. In fact, she also had time to speak to her father directly who connected through a video call on her younger brother's cell phone, the famous singer Anuar Zain who was also the concert organizer.

Accompanied by a great band, the musical direction of the evening was led by renowned Malaysian composer and music producer, Aubrey Suwito while Jennifer Thompson acted as the concert director.

With an injection of exciting music, the entire arena was filled with the echoes of Ziana Zain's fans who never stopped singing along every time a tune was performed.

Still active on stage despite her age of 56, Ziana is also synonymous for her famous sense of fashion and style. That night, Ziana appeared graceful and elegant in three different outfits starting with a dress from Rizman Ruzaini, followed by a frock designed by Faizul from Rizalman and finally a special closing piece by Ezuwan Ismail.

Apart from Ziana's performances that night, there were also intervals in the form of video screenings of her achievements and also some clips of popular films in which she had starred in.

The lyric video of the theme song for CSA Academy, which is also the main sponsor of the concert, was also screened that night.

Some familiar faces were also present that night to support Ziana Zain. Among those seen included Erra Fazira, Hael Husaini, Ernie Zakri, Syamel, Misha Omar, Rozita Che Wan, Liza Hanim and many more.

A number of 5000 people in the audience were mesmerized by the spectacular performance of their favorite vocalist that night.

The singer also managed to give a surprise at the end of the concert in the form of a special announcement when she broke the news of her up-coming concert in Singapore which is set to take place on the Sept 28 2024 at The Star Performing Arts Centre.

The lively evening ended with Madah Berhelah, the song that once made her name known in the local music scene three decades ago.

Clearly Ziana Zain’s star seems set to continue illuminating the regional music scene for more years to come.
