Iran media declares President Raisi dead, no official confirmation

Raisi's helicopter, along with two others, was en route to Tabriz City on Sunday after he inaugurated the Qiz Qalasi Dam at the border with Azerbaijan earlier in the day.

TEHRAN - Ebrahim Raisi, the eighth President of Iran, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and a group of officials accompanying them were martyred in a tragic helicopter crash in northwestern Iran, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

Raisi's helicopter, along with two others, was en route to Tabriz City on Sunday after he inaugurated the Qiz Qalasi Dam at the border with Azerbaijan earlier in the day.

East Azarbaijan Province's Governor Malek Rahmati, head of Raisi's guard team, Mehdi Mousavi and the Supreme Leader's representative in the province, Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem were also on board the crashed aircraft.

Local officials present at the crash site have confirmed the martyrdom of Raisi and his accompanying team.

The Iranian government will soon release an official statement. - BERNAMA-IRNA
