Five interesting facts about new KKB assemblyman Pang Sock Tao
SHAH ALAM - DAP's Pang Sock Tao has emerged victorious in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election on Saturday.
With this triumph, Pang, 31, who was the press secretary of Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming now held the position of representing the KKB state legislative assembly.
As she embarked on this new chapter of her political career, all eyes are on her to see how she will shape the future of KKB and uphold the values of democracy and progress.
Here are five interesting facts about Pang:
1. She has a twin
During polling day on Saturday, Pang drew attention at the voting station when she arrived with her identical twin sister, Sock Ying. Both of them were clad in white when they arrived at SJKC Khing Ming polling centre.
She also has an elder sister, Sock Fong who is also in politics. Sock Fong is the Ampang PKR vice women chief and previously served as a member of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
2. She used to be a presenter and host
Pang joined DAP in 2017 and actively campaigned for her party in the 14th General Election by attending many trails.
This included a stint as a presenter for the party’s video channel, UbahTV.
3. Her favourite foods are thosai and dhal
Pang developed an interest in Indian foods that were present in the multi-racial country, particularly thosai and dhal.
She said these dishes were part of Malaysia's diverse culinary heritage, enjoyed by people across the country.
4. She is an eloquent debater
In 2018, Pang won the fourth Tun Hussein Onn International Chinese Debating Competition, the 15th National Varsity Chinese Debating Championship as well as the first UCSI University Chinese Debate Tournament.
She also married lawyer and fellow debater Yap Bing Yew in 2022.
5. Upon her win in the by-election, she plans to move to KKB
During campaigning, Pang had indicated her commitment to immediately relocate to the constituency after her victory.
She stayed in KKB during the whole by-election period and was looking for a house to live there so that she could reach out to the people better and more effectively.
