SHAH ALAM - Harimau Malaya manager Kim Pan-gon is taking precautionary measures in light of recent incidents involving several national squad players.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said that Pan-gon comprehends the current situation and will implement appropriate safety measures, especially at the central training camp scheduled for June.

"He understands the situation and is taking precautionary measures.

"For the upcoming national training camp in June, we will exercise greater caution, particularly in terms of safety, both locally and internationally," he said.

Two national players, Akhyar Rashid, fell victim to robbery at his residence in Kuala Terengganu last Thursday, while Faisal Halim was subjected to an acid attack two days later at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya.

Former national captain Safiq Rahim also encountered an attack when unidentified individuals smashed the rear window of his car in an incident on Tuesday night.

In a related matter, Hamidin stressed that the national squad will not falter and will persist in facing the remaining two World Cup 2026/Asia Cup 2027 Qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Taiwan in June, notwithstanding the various past incidents.

"We cannot back down against Kyrgyzstan; we must confront them. Why should we give up?

"Nevertheless, with effort, our chances stand at 50-50 against Kyrgyzstan. I have already discussed this with Pan-gon, and he is aware of it.

"We will exert ourselves, and he has already identified who will replace Faisal next month," he added.
