SHAH ALAM - The acid attack on Faisal Halim is expected to profoundly impact his future performance on the field, according to Sports Science expert.

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Faculty of Sports Science senior lecturer Mohd Sadek Mustafa highlighted that besides the physical injuries, the psychological effects on Faisal will also be significant.

Despite this, he expressed confidence in Faisal's resilience and stressed the importance of continued support from all stakeholders, especially his club team, to facilitate his complete recovery.

"The incident not only inflicts physical harm but also psychological trauma on Faisal.

"It's as if his career is under threat. The same applies to Akhyar Rashid, whose recent robbery is also likely to impact his performance," Sadek said.

He stressed the crucial roles both players hold for their teams and the nation, suggesting that they may struggle with trauma in their personal and professional lives following these incidents.

Sadek urged their clubs to provide the best possible assistance and prioritise their safety in the aftermath.

Faisal was attacked with acid on Sunday, sustaining severe injuries at a shopping mall in Damansara.

This follows Akhyar's robbery last Thursday in Kuala Terengganu, where he not only lost RM4,800 but also suffered injuries.

Sadek emphasised the urgency of addressing such incidents in the sports industry promptly.

"As for Faisal's case, the motive remains unclear.

"Nevertheless, it's deeply concerning, especially regarding athlete safety.

"On Akhyar's robbery, in my view, players should avoid displaying their affluence, as it can make them targets for criminals," he added.
