SHAH ALAM - Pas claims that the government's failure to be honest and transparent regarding the issue of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Addendum Order involving the house arrest of Datuk Seri Najib Razak is unacceptable, up to the point of being cruel and excessive.

Pas Secretary General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that the government was responsible to explain the truth in addition to taking dignified steps to correct the situation because the stakes were very high.

He said it did not only involve the well-being of an individual but more importantly was the benefit of the country and the people as well as the integrity of the country’s system.

"We cannot let the system continue to be pressured and challenged by the weakness or failure of the current government and its leadership.

"At the same time, Pas also find the action of the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to file an affidavit of support for Najib's judicial review application as inconsistent and strange from several angles," he said in a statement on Friday.

On Thursday, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz failed to file an affidavit in Court to correct the allegedly inaccurate facts regarding the Addendum Decree regarding Najib's pardon case.

Judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh decided this during the hearing of the application for permission of the Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) member to file an affidavit to correct factual errors in the affidavit presented by Zahid.

Takiyuddin added the failure would raise various core questions involving the integrity, honesty and transparency of the government as well as the dignified position of the Malay Rulers.

"Without referring to the reasons for the judgment when rejecting the application, Pas believes that the contradiction of facts between two ministers in the same government gives a very bad impression of the integrity of the government.

"In addition, it also reveals the true attitude of the government regarding the position and priority of the orders of a head of state," he said.

According to him, the situation was worsened by several statements made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who seemed to want to get off his hands and hesitated not to answer the issue.

"Pas also wondered why Zahid had to wait so long, until April 9, to make the disclosure by filing an affidavit in support of Najib's judicial review application.

"Meanwhile, before that according to his claim, Tengku Zafrul informed him about the existence of the Addendum Decree on Jan 29," he said.
