'If you miss me, just say it' - Dr Akmal
Umno Youth Chief calls out misuse of his image in KKB campaign
SHAH ALAM - Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh responded sarcastically to the unauthorised use of his image alongside the KK Mart controversy on banners during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign.
Akmal stressed that such incidents should not have happened as he is not a contestant in the state constituency.
"I'm not even contesting, yet my face is on a banner in Kuala Kubu Baharu.
"If you miss me, just say it. Let's meet face-to-face; that's what real men do.
"Putting someone's face on a banner and then running away afterward, that's cowardly," he said in a Facebook post earlier today.
A banner in Mandarin that became viral on social media was displayed by the roadside, bearing the message 'you can boycott KK Mart, don't boycott KKB, vote for DAP,' eliciting varied reactions from netizens.
Previously, the Merlimau assemblyman expressed his dissatisfaction with some political party supporters who displayed banners featuring both Umno and DAP logos during the nomination of candidates.
He further added that campaigning by demeaning the opposing party does not reflect mature political behaviour and harms the image of Islam in the public eye.
The KKB by-election is seeing a four-cornered contest involving candidates from Perikatan Nasional (PN), Pakatan Harapan (PH), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), and an independent candidate.
Contesting for the KKB state assembly seat are PH's Pang Sock Tao; PN's Khairul Azhari Saut; Hafizah Zainuddin from PRM; and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin. The election will be held on May 11.
