'Stop shooting yourselves in the foot', Hulu Langat MP tells unity govt leaders
SHAH ALAM - Leaders in the unity government are reminded to immediately stop the act of "shooting themselves in the foot" which has been increasingly prevalent lately.
Hulu Langat Member of Parliament (MP) Mohd Sany Hamzan said at a time when the unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was working hard to stabilise the country's politics and economy, the actions of a few leaders attempting to attack the credibility of leaders and parties within the government did not benefit the Madani Government.
Citing the example of MIC and MCA's decision to boycott the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election, the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Leadership Committee member described such action as detrimental to the spirit of the cooperation between BN-PH that has been nurtured since the 15th General Election (GE15).
"MIC and MCA stated that they are boycotting the KKB by-election campaign because the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate was not fielded to contest in the seat.
"They should not forget that the seat has been held by DAP for three terms now and was successfully retained at the time when PH lost 22 Selangor state seats in the state election last year.
"With the increasingly good cooperation between BN-PH post-GE15, I think it is time for unity government leaders to stop shooting themselves in the foot at this critical moment.
"It is time for us to set aside our egos and focus our efforts to ensure the victory of the Madani Government's candidate in the future," he said.
The KKB by-election will be held following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong from DAP on March 21 due to cancer.
On March 22, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition would not contest the KKB seat and would pave the way for unity government ally DAP.
Meanwhile, former minister in the prime minister's department (law and parliament) Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim expressed disappointment with the decision of MCA and MIC not to participate in the KKB by-election.
The former DAP leader said when there were issues among the races in the country, both BN component parties should be able to bring about change in politics.
"The country needs a fresh BN voice but MCA and MIC leaders do not see the need to fill the void in the country's politics," he said in a statement on X.
